Our Suites
Our suits are the wooden granary that was used for storing Grains in
olden days. They are called "Ara"(wooden granary) in kerala
"Ara" or a wooden granary is common to the ancestral farm houses of
Kuttanadu. These are made of hardwood ,often teak wood, and richly
decorated by the local craftsman with hand carvings, polished, and
finished with artistic brass work.
The 'aras' are always centrally located in the homes of this area,
and the size of the "ara" is proportional to the property owned by
the household.
In those days when the Barter system was common in these village
areas, farm workers were often paid in kind i.e in grain and not
cash, these 'aras'were in effect the vaults, or the wallets
of the homes.
This explains the central location of these "aras" in the local
architecture, and the reason why they were also made strong, damp
proof, and the master bedroom being always adjacent to
them.
We have modified our "ara" into two suites, and provided a common
traditional sitting area- called "nadumuttam" and seperate attached
open air toilets to take care of the ventilation and lighting
naturally- keeping you as close as possible to nature and heritage
all the time you
spend with us;
